It's not 100 percent clear what the Detroit Lions' interest level is in Tennessee Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan, but it's looking like the team may not get a shot to talk with him. The team is considering using its franchise tag on Finnegan – arguably the top prospective free agent – the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported via Twitter. Tennessee has until Monday to make the decision before the 28-year-old becomes a free agent.

The Tennessee Titans will not place a franchise tag on cornerback Cortland Finnegan, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. As a result, Finnegan will become an unrestricted free-agent. Finnegan, 28, had 58 total tackles, one sack, and one interception last season for the Titans.

While the Titans search for an impact player at defensive end in the 2012 draft, they’re still convinced they hit on a first-round pick at the position two years ago. Derrick Morgan, selected 16th overall in 2010, has only 3.5 sacks in his first two NFL seasons. If not for bad luck — Morgan tore his ACL in Week 4 of his rookie season — Coach Mike Munchak said Morgan would have been a bigger hit by now.
